J.K. Rowling, the author of the famous Harry Potter series, which captured the imagination of millions in the 2000s and long held the title of the best author, was once one of the most respected figures in the world. Her works brought her worldwide fame, recognition and financial independence, and “Harry Potter” itself became a global cultural phenomenon.

However, in recent years, Rowling has found herself at the centre of a major scandal that has seriously damaged her reputation. She has lost her status as the most beloved and best author amid public condemnation.

A Fall from Grace

In the early 2000s, J.K. Rowling became a symbol of success in many countries. Her Harry Potter books not only paved the way for millions of readers around the world to enter the world of magic, but also created an entire industry, including films, games and theme parks, that are still relevant today.

Nevertheless, this success was not the only thing that made her one of the most influential figures in the world of literature. However, since finishing writing and filming the famous Harry Potter, Rowling began to face new challenges, including criticism of her statements on gender identity.

Her recent statements, on those who identify as ‘trans’, continue to cause a storm of indignation among both fans and representatives of the LGBT+ community.

The Controversy with The LGBT Community

It all started in 2019, when J.K. Rowling shared her views on the bill regarding the rights of transgender people in the UK on X. Rowling expressed doubts about the use of the term “woman”, saying that this word should not be used in the context of trans women who changed their biological sex from male to female.

Her post became the reason for a huge wave of criticism, especially from transgender activists, who considered these statements offensive and uncomfortable. Many people began to accuse her of transphobia, and in response to criticism, the writer continued to state that she aims to protect women and their rights.

The Aftermath of The Situation

The writer continued to insist that her views are genuine, citing the protection of women’s rights and public safety in public toilets and gyms. However, such arguments did not soften the aggressive reaction of the LGBT community, and with each passing day, Rowling became more and more isolated.

The scandal led to the loss of support from some of the famous actors who played in the Harry Potter films, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. These stars openly stated that they do not share Rowling’s views on gender issues and support the rights of the trans community.

Losing the ‘Best Author’ Title

As much as Rowling tried to justify herself, her views on gender identity and the fight for transgender rights had an impact on her career. She lost her long-standing reputation as a distinguished author who was considered an inspiration to younger generations because of the words she spoke.

J.K. Rowling has lost her status as a beloved author to new figures in the literary world, serving as a reminder of the importance of embracing multiple perspectives and respecting the rights of all people, irrespective of their sex, race or gender identity.
