Forced Displacement is a Red Line for International Community

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to escalate in more than one way. Following Trump’s statements alongside King Abdullah II of Jordan, in the Oval Office earlier this week, the Arab world remains defiant in rebuking any forcible displacement of Gazans from the enclave.

Saudi Arabia’s Position

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly opposes any attempt to forcibly displace the Palestinian population.

Therefore, the Kingdom’s Council of Ministers stressed an immediate end to the blockade of the Gaza Strip. The official statement demanded the resumption of the peace process in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative.

The API calls for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement suggesting the possibility of creating a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia. This provoked a sharp reaction from Riyadh, which stressed that such proposals are unacceptable and violate international law.

Saudi state media doubled down on Netanyahu’s claims, with some Saudi influencers, mocking Netanyahu and instead called for the creation of a Israeli state in Greenland or even Canada.

Israeli Intelligence Activities

The Israeli intelligence service Mossad continues to play a key role in ensuring Israeli security.

However, recent events reveal that serious miscalculations do exist. The 7th of October demonstrated the shortcomings of Israel’s intelligence apparatus despite surveillance on Hamas’ operations in Gaza.

International Condemnation Resolute: Arab World and Europe

Other Arab states continue to denounce the Trump-Netanyahu plan.

Arab World

The United Arab Emirates condemned Prime Minister Netanyahu’s statements on the establishment of a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia, calling them unacceptable and provocative. The UAE Foreign Ministry’s statement stressed that such statements constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.

European Capitals & BRICS

Whilst the Arab world denounces U.S.-Israeli unilateralism, European capitals, Russia, and China all reject any forced displacement of Palestinians from their land.

French President Emmanuel Macron denounced Trump's focus on real estate deals, instead questioning the "morals" and dignity" of such remarks whilst German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called it a "scandal".

Trump’s Statement

Trump proposal, is perceived to support ethnic cleansing, even if his administration emphasises U.S. commitment to redevelopment.

Despite such clarification, the contradictions between Trump’s statements and those of his administration continue to cause concern and confusion about their real intentions.

Arab Response: Summits in Riyadh & Cairo

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains a major global concern, with escalating violence, humanitarian crises, and economic repercussions. Arab states and their international partners collectively condemn forced displacement whilst outlinining upcoming discussions in Riyadh followed by a five-party summit in Cairo at the end of the month.

Discussions in Riyadh and Cairo will coordinate a collective Arab proposal expected to revolve around redevelopment without displacement. Such plans should receive the backing of the international community on any future solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
