Part 2 of this three part interview examines the social engineering project of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan as the RSF encircle the Sudanese Armed Forces’ (SAF) last stronghold in Darfur, El Fasher, as international observers label this ‘genocide’ loud and clear.
DET is joined by Sudanese journalist, Muammar Ibrahim, a Sudanese journalist from Darfur with over six years of frontline reporting experience for Al Jazeera, Al Mamlaka TV, and Arabi Post. He has covered protests, war, and humanitarian crises across Sudan, including from besieged El Fasher.
A Network of Wars & ‘War Crimes’
Editor-in-Chief, Gus Anderson: The UN and Amnesty International have reported war crimes perpetrated by both sides, the SAF and RSF.
Do you think the situation will be the same under the RSF in Sudan, concerning the potential division of Sudan? How can the situation in Sudan be compared to the situation in Gaza?
Muammar Ibrahim: As for the operational situation, El Fasher has witnessed nearly 231 battles between the RSF and SAF this year. The SAF constantly repels the RSF.
Yet it is worth noting here that the RSF are attempting to take over the last stronghold in the Darfur region through these attacks. The RSF have already seized four main cities: Nyala, Zalingei, Ed Darin, and El Geneina and turned them into killing zones.
The existence of civilians wasn’t a sufficeint motive for the RSF to cease their attacks on the city. The RSF always cites the pretext that the region is a scene of military confrontation with the SAF.
The Motive is Ethnicity, Not Politics
"Yet what makes the RSF forces attack these cities in such a violent matter? The RSF realises that this question, the war they are waging against the SAF, is ethnic as the civilians are deliberately killed on a ethnic basis, because of their tribal background."
You have all watched the social media footage that went viral across social platforms.
"The RSF believes that El Fasher is a region that has no social incubator."
Therefore, the RSF is killing civilians on ethnic and racial grounds. They also conduct barbaric attacks against the Massalit tribe out of belief that these are not Arab tribes.
The RSF see it is their right to take over the land, drive out its residents, like what happened in El Geneina.
This is genocide, this is ethnic cleansing, and a change in the demographic composition in Darfur, West Sudan.
