In the final part of this series on Hypnotherapy, Dr Niya delves into Clinical Hypnotherapy with DET’s Podcast Host: Mariem Dekihili. When should we see a psychologist or psychiatrist and when is it appropriate to go a little further to seek a clinical hypnotherapist.
Dr Niya breaks it down for us in this episode.
Dr Niya: I’d like to specify especially now, if you compare and look at it this year compared to the past seven years, I would say a lot more people are open to going to therapy or even having a conversation about their mental health much more than before.
Mental Health is Mainstream, Yet Who Do We See & Why?
The biggest challenge now is who do you go to.
Do I go to a psychiatrist, do I go to a psychologist, do I go to a psychotherapist, or a clinical hypnotherapist?
People are now very open but they don’t have enough knowledge to go to the right person.
Now my answer to that is again there is not a right or wrong person; it depends on you.
It completely depends on who you relate to as a person.
When to See a Psychiatrist?
If I am feeling anxious, for instance, and I am not in a position to sit down to invest my time and energy into understanding where these feelings are coming from … and I need something to calm my emotions right now; I will never ask you to go to a psychologist, but to a psychiatrist.
Psychiatrists can give you a pill cut chemically to help induce a calm state and that will work for many people.
Clinical Psychology
However, if you a person looking to understand ‘the why‘ then go to a clinical psychologist.
Think of it as your mind having two parts; the concious mind is about 8-10% of your mind used to analyse and critically think.
Clinical Hypnotherapy: Rerooting the Subconscious
Yet, the subconscious mind is the other half responsible for unconscious patterns repeating themselves.
Therefore, if you have tried all other options and you see such patterns repeating; then that is when you should visit a clinical hypnotherapist.
